He was best known for his passion for cars. His tragic death in his beloved Porsche 550 Spyder at 24 years old helped him obtain legendary status and posthumous immortality. He was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and remains the only person to have two such nominations posthumously.
